KATH missing babies report is incomplete – Takoradi MP

Hon. Okyere Darko, Takoradi MP
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Takoradi Constituency Hon. Okyere Darko Mensah has described the report issued by the Ministry of Health concerning the missing babies at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital as incomplete because it fails to establish the where about of the children.

Speaking on Joy News’ AM show this morning, Mr. Okyere Darko said parliament is not satisfied with the report. “If we had been told that this is the dead body, then parliament would know what to do, but now parliament is not satisfied with the report. The report is incomplete because it fails to address the where about of the children”, the MP asserted.

According to him, he was shocked when he heard the news concerning the missing babies as he believes that such events are rare in the country. “I thought these things happen in the movies alone, but realized it’s here in Ghana. It is rare that someone will go to the hospital to give birth and their children are stolen from them. This clearly tells there is a big problem that needs to be fixed”, he added.

The MP for Karaga in the Northern region Hon. Iddrisu Dawuda who was also part of the guests on the show shared similar views with his colleague MP. “For me, this is a national issue and the report that came; we parliamentarians are not ok with. At least, they should furnish us with something better. This is the time for us to know what is happening. I can be the next victim and how am I going to feel?”, he said.

As part of its oversight duties, the Speaker of Parliament Hon. Doe Adjaho has directed the Ministry of Health to furnish it with the report on the missing babies at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi.
Meanwhile, it is reported that the family of Suweiba Mumin, mother of one of the missing babies has threatened to seek justice through the law court as the committee’s report failed to establish where her baby is.

The Sector Minister, Sherry Aryeetey yesterday in a press conference said the criminal aspect of the matter has been handed over to the Attorney General for further investigations to be carried out which might include possible prosecution.

However, the Takoradi MP stated that such submission from the health minister clearly suggests that the report is incomplete. “If there
is a criminal side to the matter, then it means the report is not complete”, he said.
